| Artist Biography |
Shelly Jyoti is a visual
and interdisciplinary artist based in Baroda,
India, She received her master’s degree
in English literature in 1980 and further went
to train herself as a fashion designer from
India’s premier fashion school NIFT [National
Institute of Fashion Technology] New Delhi.
Her
interdisciplinary work in designing garments,
drawing, painting, sculpture / poetry writing
has appeared in a number of solo and group
exhibitions in India, North America, Singapore
internationally over the past 10 years

Her passion for art began at the very early age
of six and continues even today just as passionately
through different mediums of expressions and
creative spaces .
In
March 2008,She was invited by Woman
Made Gallery , Chicago to exhibit
her ''Beyond mithila'' series . The show was
very well recieved by artists and art community
internationally.
She was invited to lecture
on the same in University of Illinios, Chicago.
Presently, she is invited to exhibit the same
series with Jamaat Art Gallery as
solo show from October 3rd till November 3rd
2008

In April 2007, she curated
and visualized an installation show of 180 paintings
at India Habitat Centre in New Delhi . It was
very well received.

The other upcoming projects
include solo/group exhibitions at India Habitat
Center New Delhi and California in 2008-2009.

Her
artworks have received significant critical
attention, and has most recently been reviewed
by important news papers and TV Channels.
In her recent published works are her paintings
published by University of Saint Xavier’s,
Chicago for their cover magazine 2007 and also
for the cover/back page of Indian literature
by sahitya Akedimi IL238- in 2007-

Jyoti is a patron artist member of SAVAC (South
Asian Visual Arts Collective) and an artist
member of woman made art gallery Chicago, Member
for ‘Forum for Contemporary Theory’
-- funded by Ford Foundation. She had presented
a paper on “Computation @ Speed Accelerating
Fashions” in critical theory National
workshop at Baroda. |
| She works on environmental projects and with special
children with Autism disabilities in the capacity
of a board member for ‘Disha’ and
‘Socleen’ in Gujarat. |
She has also received awards from Management institutions
of Baroda [BMA] as contribution of her work
as an artist and also from NIFT as a designer
with traditional Art & craft.
Awarded as 'Best Poet’ leading online
poetry magazine www.boloji .com
She is invited to jury fashion shows and conduct
workshops on Art and Fashions.
She is working as an independent researcher
exploring the search for ethnic identity in
costume history of India and its documentation
through visual representation of 20th C artists.
